Retro PC up and running

After a month of waiting, the part I needed from China has arrived for my Retro Gaming PC.

The PC is a Pentium 4 HT based PC that’s been designed to play old games like C&C, Unreal Tournament 2004, Warcraft III and Freelancer. Most of these games either don’t run on Windows 10 or run to fast.

The games run perfectly on this PC at 60FPS or over with all the details set to high.

The part I had to wait for was a heat-sink mount for the P4 as the old one broke while I was upgrading the CPU from a Celeron 2.6Ghz to the P4 3.06Ghz with Hyperthreading.

The rest of the PC specs are as follows :-

  • Asrock P4i65G
  • Pentium 4 HT 3.06Ghz
  • 1Gb DDR Ram
  • 80Gb IDE Hard Drive
  • Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra with 256Mb Graphics
  • DVD/RW Drive
  • CD/RW Drive

The case I used is an old eMachines 420 case, though the only 3 things that are original in it are the motherboard, DVD/RW and CD/RW drive.

The monitor I am using is an old Dell 15″ monitor with a max resolution of 1280/1024.

I ran 3D Mark 2001SE through the system and got a score of 15732.

The main thing I don’t like is the noise that it puts out, but that is due to the hard drive, that I will replace with a SATA hard drive as the motherboard has 1 SATA connection to it.
